Each of our recreational coaches is a minimum of 16 years old and is required to hold at least the Level I coaching certification, obtained through the National Coaching Certification Program of Canada. They also have current first-aid certification.
SAGC has an in-house coach-in-training program, in which competitive gymnasts who are at least 14 years old volunteer as recreational class assistants. After building up a required number of volunteer hours, completing their Level I certification, and passing their 16th birthday, these talented assistants can become part-time recreational coaches. Many go on to complete their Levels II and III coaching certification and some move on to coaching competitive athletes.
